LIBRARIES MORE THAN BOOKS

Peter Flierl Having been in libraries all my life, including early childhood in Delmar, it might be easy to take them and their services for granted. We do not do so. On a recent visit, Jean at the front desk saw and heard my frustration with repeat sales calls, e.g., Medicare, home improvement, et al. She in a few moments taught me how to block them. While there, we looked at the New Lebanon Library 2024 Year in Review and were impressed. Among highlights:
• 22,939 items checked out by 9,155 library visitors, a 12% increase over 2023 with 125 new cardholders. • 670 new books were added to the collection and community members saved $398,479 by borrowing items, downloading e-books, using free museum passes, using computer and WI-FI, and attending programs. • 292 events attended by 2,521 patrons, a 25% increase over 2023. • Expert reference help by staff, including computer training. We suggest getting on the library’s e-newsletter for updates and calendar events, including recent movies, and sign on at www.newlebanonlibrary.org. ###
